How to Fix Error - Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Web login required (Failure)

In my previous post about How to Find Workgroup Name in Windows XP , you can find step by step process to figure out Workgroup in XP.

Moving on,if you access Gmail using an email client(s) like Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, iPhone etc., via IMAP access, the following error message may appear, requesting user to manually input the user name and password again in order to authenticate and send/receive email messages.

Error Message:

Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Web login required (Failure)

There can be a couple of reasons behind this message:

Reason 1:
Google, like any other email provider protects the system against automated bots, scripts and probable abusing the account activity for sending spam messages. Because of any abnormal activity (unusual bandwidth utilization) from your computer, Google might suspect it as a spamming activity, hence IMAP server require authentication.

Reason 2:
If you are checking your email too frequently or sending email messages to a very large number of recipients, Google may again consider it as spamming and ask you to authenticate again.
To this writing, Google recommends to set mail client to check for new messages not more than once every 10 minutes.

Solution:
If every thing seems normal and you are sure that no abnormal activity has taken place, you may need to unlock you account using the following link:

https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha

Once you click on the above link, type email address, password and enter the correct captcha validation text. Click "unlock".

In most cases, this resloves the problem. But if problem persists, try to use an alternative IMAP server instead, which is imap.googlemail.com on SSL port 993.

Hope this solution works for you. Good luck.
