How to Clear/Remove unwanted Items from “Add or Remove Programs”

Sometimes, because of poor programming practices, software still remains listed in “Add or Remove Programs” under “Control Panel”. This is a kind of misleading, as the software is not actually present on the system but still shows its presence on the system.

You can always get rid of unwanted software items from “Add or Remove programs”.

Here is how:

  • Click “Start” button.

  • Select “Run”
  • Type “regedit” (without quotes)
  • Click “OK”

  • Registry editor will open and you’ll see a list on the left side of your screen.
  • From the list, open “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

  • Under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”, open “Microsoft

  • Now, go all the way down the list and open “Windows”, then “Current Version

  • Finally, Open “Uninstall”.

  • Under “Uninstall”, you’ll have the list of software installed on your computer. From there, you can remove any unwanted item by pressing Right Click on it and select “Delete”.

So next time, when you open “Add or Remove Programs”, you’ll have a clean list of only those software which are actually installed on your computer.
